Maintained properly, monitors are some of the most enjoyable reptiles available. For the average keeper, ackies, or ridge-tailed monitors are the best possible species. They are easily maintained in nearly any enclosure so long as they have the opportunity to access tremendous basking temperatures (simple enough with elevated basking areas and a flood bulb fixture), stay small, and they breed readily when given tons of food and heat. Despite, or perhaps directly because of their vast popularity amongst both first time reptile keepers and serious breeders, these monitors are still relatively unavailable; the only specimens we ever see consistently available are lone adult males. At this point in time we are only working with the Red type (Varanus acanthurus acanthurus). We are also working with various other species, and will occasionally have some offspring available.
